RisuAI connects through its Custom API model (OpenAI Compatible format). On the web version, turn on Force Plain Fetch so requests go straight to FreeTheAI.

Steps

  1. Open the bot settings

Open Settings (gear), then Chat Bot.

  2. Choose Custom API

Set the model to Custom API and the format to OpenAI Compatible.

  3. Fill in the connection

Enter the URL, your key in Key/Password, and a model ID in Request Model, using the values above.

  4. Web version only: Force Plain Fetch

Go to Settings, Advanced Settings, turn on Show Unrecommended Settings, then turn on Force Plain Fetch. Without it RisuAI sends requests through its own relay, which FreeTheAI does not accept.

How this guide was checked: Checked against RisuAI's source (Custom API model, request URL handling, Force Plain Fetch) on 2026-09-29.

Tips

  • A base URL ending in /v1 also works; RisuAI adds /chat/completions.
  • The desktop and mobile apps do not need Force Plain Fetch.

Troubleshooting

RisuAI says relay_not_supported. How do I fix it?

Turn on Force Plain Fetch under Settings, Advanced Settings (after enabling Show Unrecommended Settings). RisuAI then calls FreeTheAI directly from your browser.

Which model should I use?

fta/zai/glm-5.3 is a strong default for roleplay. See freetheai.org/models for all free models.
